GO TO A LITERACY/READING PROMOTIONAL EVENT:

Congratulations to Robinsons Book Shop, winner of this year’s National Bookshop Day held on Saturday 10th of August 2013. Robinsons in Frankston was voted the state’s most popular by readers in an online poll. This is a great achievement and gives extra special recognition for service to its reading community as it coincides with their 50 year celebration in October. Their Frankston shop is Victoria’s oldest general bookshop with stores now open in Greensborough and Chadstone; with plans to open more, later this year and the next.

To celebrate the role of bookshops Robinsons joined in the fun with:
 A free book from their giveaway stock with any purchase
 Blind date with a book (3 words on outside of brown paper are your only clue)
 Colouring competition
 Book themed food in their café and book themed displays throughout the store.

Staff were dressed up as book characters – Tinkerbell, Tweedledum (or was it dee) and Fantastic Mr Fox.
Being an extremely busy person these days like most, I don’t get to do much of what I enjoy so after one hour or so of leisurely browsing the many displays and book shelves with their delicious in store offerings, the realisation comes of how much I enjoy my time in these spaces. Colourful, welcoming, friendly and interesting – so many tales you could chase. The very environment makes you want to read and that is great! The “e” world is here and here to stay this is not bad, it is simply another resource available to keep us busy folk reading and stretching our personal literacy potential and here’s the point – one does not need to supersede the other – we can have both and use both in life’s quest to promote literacy and reading for all and give our children both experiences to encourage and broaden reading throughout life. So well done Robinsons for reaching 50 years, for making adjustments and remaining relevant so you are still with us providing the delicious, visual, tactile book shopping experience, often the start of a reading journey.  Let’s embrace, see the value and keep all resources that promote literacy in our communities, let’s be “greedy readers” devour and enjoy all the formats!
